Clarisonic Mia- Day 30

I've had my Clarisonic Mia for about a month now. I really, really wanted to love it. There are so many unabashed raves to this product--talk of porelessness, radiance, completely changed skin--that I thought for sure I would see something spectacular manifest. Not so much.

I have normal to dry sensitive skin that is prone to a few clogged pores from what I can only assume is living in a city with filthy air, copious sunscreen use and the occasional hair product. My skin is normally pretty clear, but doesn't have that glow it had in my teens and early twenties. I wasn't looking for miracles, just an overall improvement in the look and feel of my skin. I started using the Mia once a day (the packaging prescribes twice) and found it very irritating to my sensitive skin. I was left red and raw feeling. I switched to every third day and while that helped quell the irritation, after 2 weeks I noticed no change whatsoever in my clogged pores. I then opted to use it every other day which I though would be the perfect balance.

When I look in the mirror, my pores are exactly the same, my clogged pores persist and I now have broken capillaries on my cheeks and nose, something I have never experienced before and have to attribute to the Mia. I know that many other people have had the same issue with broken capillaries and I hope they go away! I also never had the experience of seeing how much "hidden" makeup and dirt the brush was removing as it was always clean and white after use. I am a proponent of double cleaning (removing my makeup with a balm-like cleanser before washing with a gentle foaming one) and it seems that this really does get my skin quite clean.

The Mia (and all Clarisonic products) may be divine for heartier skin, but I'm giving my poor irritated skin a break, shipping it back and returning to my ExfoliKate Gentle.

  1. Thank you for this review. Obviously not everything works for everybody, but it's still refreshing to read a review that isn't making out this product is life-changing when it's nothing more than an electric facial brush.

  2. I had the same experience with the Mia. My skin is pretty much normal, not particularly sensitive, and I just felt like it damaged it without any particularly noticeable benefits. I'm glad I'm not the only one since almost everyone seems to say that no one can live without this.

  3. Vex-glad to be of service! :)

AmyE, I'm sorry you had a not so great experience but I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was expecting a miracle based on all of the reviews but no such luck!

  4. I'm sorry to hear that you ladies had such bad experiences :-( It's obviously not for everyone just the same as chemical and grit based exfoliating products aren't for everyone. My dry, sensitive, mature skin loves the Clarisonic. I use it every evening with the sensitive skin brush. I never scrub my face with the device or press down on my skin with it. I just glide it over my face and neck and let the vibration do the work. I noticed that my night serums do, indeed, sink in faster. Even my dermatologist complimented me on the improvement to my complexion.

  5. I have the original Clarisonic and while I like that it cleans my skin well, I see no miracles. I wish it helped with my pores but it doesn't. I'm not bashing it but if someone is looking for all the claims, they should make sure they buy it somewhere they can return it if it doesn't work out.

  6. Eileen, I'm glad it's working for you!

Marcia, I agree about buying somewhere with a good return policy. It's seems to be a very "your mileage may vary" product.

  8. I just got one for Christmas and after my first use I have several broken capillaries on the sides of my nose! I am glad I found this because my husband thinks I am crazy for blaming the Clarisonic.

  9. Has anyone had any legal advice regarding clarisonic causing broken capillaries as this has happened to me and I am thinking of seeking advice

  10. I have been using it for about 2 weeks, just once a day, sensitive brush, and I have broken capillaries on my cheeks and nose. I should note that I have NEVER had any sort of skin issues, just oily skin and larger pores on my T-zone. At first I thought it was just "right after" using the clarisonic, that maybe it was bringing the blood to the surface of my skin which could be a good, healthy thing. But the broken capillaries look like they are increasing and not going away. I agree, this should be posted on the product. After spending $200 on the thing, now I will need laser treatments to remove the broken capillaries? I am mortified after having seen all the forums and posts on this issue. There should be a class action for this sort of thing.
