Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer

I've read many raves for Eve Pearl's Salmon Concealer and Treatment on beauty blogs and message boards and when the brand appeared on Hautelook, I jumped at the chance and ordered. Here is the blurb from the Ever Pearl site:
  • Revolutionizing the use of the “Salmon” or pinky/peach color as an under eye concealer to neutralize the dark blue undertones from the skin. (Yellows mixed with the blue undertones create those greenish/grey raccoon eyes that are highlighted and only accentuate the problem area.)
  • This luxurious silky cream provides full coverage with a non-greasy texture that glides on smooth to the most delicate area of your face. It offers the advantages of the powerful anti-oxidant, AstaReal®/Astaxanthin - a key ingredient in the CosmeNutrient™ Complex.
  • Ideal for use when flawless precision is required with High Definition cameras and real life.
  • For most skin types, including sensitive skin.
  • AstaREAL®, the key ingredient in Eve Pearl’s CosmeNutrient™ Complex, it is the most recognized brand of Astaxanthin. AstaReal® is not only a coloring agent; it is also a very potent anti-oxidant.
    • Naturally harvested from the micro algae Haematococcus pluvial is- a single cell plant at the very beginning of the food chain.
    • An all natural carotenoid pigment and provides strongest natural antioxidant protection against lipid peroxidation* and singlet oxygen**.
    • 1000 times stronger than vitamin E for lipid peroxidation.
    • 550 times stronger than vitamin E and 40 times stronger beta-carotene for singlet oxygen quenching.
    • Provides support for skin at the cellular level.
    • Helps to improve skin naturally.... no harsh chemicals.... no dangerous procedures.
    • Helps to fight the effects of the aging process.
    • Has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce burn levels after UVB exposure.
    • Contributes to the reduction of hyper-pigmentation.
    • Protects body tissue from oxidation.
How great does that sound? I received the concealer last night and used it this morning for the first time. I ordered the light and am always the lightest concealer shade. I have the worst dark circles I have ever seen on anyone and was really hoping that this would be my Holy Grail concealer. Yes, it is very peachy, which is supposedly good for counteracting the blue-purple of under eye circles, but it's quite dark at the same time. Using it today, I found that I had deep peachy circles under my eyes after it was applied! Not a good look! I applied my Jouer concealer over it (which matches my skin tone) and it looks much better this way, but I now have 2 layers of concealer under my eyes which leads to caking.

To me this isn't a salmon concealer, but more akin to a medium toned concealer with strong warm undertones. I even checked the box and concealer itself 3 times to make sure I hadn't received the medium shade.

Here is the concealer with (top) and without (bottom) flash:

I'm going to give the concealer another shot tomorrow. I think it's just too dark to work on its own but I'll trying mixing it with other concealers.

Speaking of Hautelook, Kevyn Aucoin will be on sale on Monday! If they have it, I very highly recommend picking up the Essential Eye Palette #1. It's become truly indispensable to me.

Some Upcoming Gilt and Hautelook Cosmetic Sales

I had stopped purchasing cosmetic items from Gilt despite the great prices they offer because the shipping was just too high. However, I received an email saying that they had new lower shipping rates for purchases so my interest has been piqued again! Hautelook always has $4.95 shipping for smaller items like cosmetics which I think is reasonable, especially considering you can combine across sales. (In case you're unfamiliar, Gilt and Hautelook are online sample sale sites. Just register and you can begin shopping!)

This week on Gilt:
  • Tuesday- Laura Geller (also of note, Stella McCartney, KORS Michael Kors and James Perse)
  • Thursday- Oscar Blandi Haircare- I highly recommend the Jasmine Hair Serum if they have it. It smells absolutely divine. (They also have Kate Spade, Marc by Marc Jacobs and desginer demin blowout that day)
This week on Hautelook:
  • Wednesday- LaRocca Skincare- based on the healing properties on 24K gold. Hautelook is great about posting full ingredient lists so you know if a product will work for your skin.

Kevyn Aucoin Mini Haul

When Kevyn Aucoin was on sale at Hautelook two weeks ago, I purchased the Essential Eye Shadow Set Palette #1 and the Flesh Toned Lip Pencil in Neutral in a total state of ennui--I didn't really want or need them, but I was feeling a bit blah and by the time I knew it, I had an order confirmation in my inbox. Call it fugue shopping! I wasn't eagerly anticipating their arrival but I have to say, now that I've received them, I'm really glad I made the purchase! The shadow palette is a great collection of basics that appear versatile and perfect for travel. There is a shimmery vanilla, a slightly shimmered soft toasty taupe, a yellow brown with a hint of mustard, a shimmery charcoal and a softly frosted pinky peach that is quite similar to Trish McEvoy Golden Apricot.

Without Flash:
The lip pencil is a mauve brown that is a bit darker than I had expected but I think will prove versatile.

I can't say that I'd go out and pay the full $55 for another shadow palette or $24 for the lip liner, but with more and more stores clearing out the line, if you find either of these items (or the Eyelash Curler) on sale I suggest picking them up.

Kevyn Aucoin is on SALE at Hautelook!

Kevyn Aucoin products are 60% off at Hautelook, an online sample sale site. The selection is a bit limited (no Sensual Skin Enhancer and few lipsticks), but if you're after brushes, eye shadow palettes, liners or powders, definitely check it out! Unfortunately between Sephora dropping the line and now this sale, I'm not optimistic about the brand's future. It's too bad since the line has some fabulous products (I use the Eyelash Curler everyday and my sister would be lost without the Sensual Skin Enhancer used as concealer) and was the brainchild of a gone-too-soon makeup legend. I ordered The Essential Eye Shadow Palette #1 and The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Neutral. I can't wait until they arrive!
